Seems to be a limitation in that PDF Pen iPad will not open a locked PDF file or allow annotating it. PDF ReaderPro does allow this and permits syncing back to Dropbox, overwriting the original locked PDF. Since I seem to have a lot of instruction manuals in locked PDF's (which I sorely need to annotate) this is the ONLY advantage I can see to PDF ReaderPro, but it is a huge limitation to PDFPen.

I see that this title has an option under the subtitles bubble to chose between Stereo and Surround sound, even though Surround sound is greyed out. Did the previous screencasts not have Stereo sound? Was wondering why this one was 2 to 3 times the of others. Will Surround sound be coming soon?

Hi Neil, Experimenting with the encoding hence the Surround sound option. Next week will not include that

There is no doubt that this app is great for reading and annotating PDF's. However I cannot see that you would be able to store PDF's as there is no way of creating folders to keep them in. Sooner or later it would become difficult to find anything. How do you do bullet points and numbering? I can't find anyway of doing it, or have I missed something.

Hi Colin, I think the issue of iCloud folders is not restricted to just PDFPen, it's a common issue for all apps that have adopted it. This will be resolved with the introduction of Mountain Lion and you'll be able to create folders in the iCloud GUI (allegedly!)

Don't think automatic bullet points or numbering is supported.

Giffer Pro - Create Animated GIFs

After playing with animated GIFs on this week's Mac show, I wanted to see what was available on iOS.

Giffer Pro is an amazing app that allows you to create animated GIFs from your iPhone or iPad camera, from a series of still images or from an imported video clip. You can create your own library of GIFs or share via it's built in web service or via social media, email or iMessages/SMS.

It also includes support for creating CinemaGraphs - animated GIFs where just a portion of the GIF is animated - very cool!

Giffer Pro is both simple to use and yet offers amazing control over the creation and editing of your GIFs

Cloak - Secure VPN for iOS

You're at your local coffee shop using their free WiFi. Just how secure are you? Not very secure as it turns out!

You need to use a VPN or Virtual Private Network to create a secure "tunnel" out of the free wifi zone, to prevent anyone being able to snoop on your data locally.

This week, Todd Olthoff takes a look at Cloak for iOS, an inexpensive VPN client for your iPhone or iPad. The Mac version is covered in this week's Mac show. Cloak creates a secure connection between you and the Cloak servers to secure your data. As an added bonus, the builtin "Cloak Transporter" service allows you to mimic being connected in other countries, ideal for when you're away from home yet want to access

InterConneX is a new iPad application from Econ Technologies - the developers of ChronoSync and ChronoAgent. So now you can access, sync and organise your files from your Mac to your iPad and back again. You can also sync and transfer your files from one iPad to another.

InterConneX allows you to create "Sharespaces" - centralised containers on your iPad. You can create local Sharespaces , remote Sharespaces to share with other iPads or ChronoAgent Sharespaces to view and access files on your Mac from your iPad. Instashare is a great new app for transferring files using your local Wifi network or Bluetooth. It allows you to transfer files to your Mac or iOS device seamlessly and has support for all file types.

Just run the free Instashare app on your iPad, iPhone or iPod touch and you can transfer files using drag and drop between them. Run the free Mac client, and your Macs become visible to your iOS devices and vice versa. Instashare accesses your Photos and allows you to tap and drag to initiate a file transfer. Other files can be accessed from with their native applications by using the iOS "Open in.." feature to load them into Instashare and allow transfer.

And as I anticipated, the day I publish this tutorial, they bring out an iPad version!

Instashare is free and supported by iAds although you can upgrade using an in App purchase to remove the iAds.

This full tutorial includes sections on:

    • Introduction to Instashare
    • iOS to IOS Transfer
