1Password V3 Description

Time to revisit an old friend, one of the most essential Mac applications around - 1Password.

1Password is the outstanding password manager and auto form filler from Agile Web Solutions. It's an application I've covered before, but it's recently had a complete revamp, with lots of new and improved features.

Resplendent in it's gorgeous new user interface design, the changes in 1Password 3 run much deeper than on first glance.

This show is not just an update show, but takes you back to basics with 1Password along with reviewing most of the new features in the application.

Even if you're an experience 1Password user, I'm confident you'll find some features of the application you didn't know existed. Internet security needs to be taken seriously and all to often, we fall into the trap of using the same password on multiple systems. If your password is compromised on one system, then all the other systems are wide open. Add in the ever increasing sophistication of ""Phishing"" websites, and identity theft becomes areal concern.

1Password v3 allows you to create and seamlessly manage strong multiple passwords across all your services. Better still, 1Password identifies which website you're accessing and can supply your login details automatically, from keyboard shortcuts or through deep integration with a wide range of leading Mac browsers. But it's not just limited to passwords, 1Password has been extended to cover all aspects of your digital identity and online presence.

From system accounts, online identities, credit card details and a whole host of other important information, 1Password has been designed to be a secure, encrypted repository for all your digital information. You can even store file attachments right inside the secure 1Password keychain. 1Password v3 also includes 1PasswordAnywhere, allowing you to access your information from any computer connected to the Internet with a modern browser.

If you're an iPhone, iPod Touch or iPad owner, 1Password is also available on these devices, allowing you to sync your important data wirelessly from your Mac on your local network.

The full show covers:

  • Introduction to 1Password
  • Installation
  • Importing Passwords
  • Using 1Password
  • Capturing Web Logins

Cobook - The Intelligent Address Book [Mac]

The Contacts application in OSX (previously Address Book), hasn't really changed much over the years. Except for a questionable make over, the basic functionality has remained the same.

    Enter Cobook.

Cobook is a re-imagining of the traditional Contacts application, with some very smart new features. Best of all, it utilises the same underlying contacts data and is able to sync using iCloud. Add in a fully featured iOS application, and you can use Cobook across all your devices.

Please note that Cobook for Mac is no longer a free application!

BusyCal 2 - An alternative to OSX Calendar

This week, it's time to revisit the de facto alternative to the standard OSX Calendar application - BusyCal.

BusyCal is a fully featured calendaring and to-do list application that syncs your iCloud calendars, your Google calendars and most other CalDAV based services. It also integrates with your iCloud reminders, allowing you to view your reminders and events from a single application. As it uses iCloud data, events and to-dos created or updated in BusyCal are seamlessly synced across all your Mac and iOS devices.

  • BusyCal 2 - An alternative to OSX Calendar Description

This week, it's time to revisit the de facto alternative to the standard OSX Calendar application - BusyCal.

BusyCal is a fully featured calendaring and to-do list application that syncs your iCloud calendars, your Google calendars and most other CalDAV based services. It also integrates with your iCloud reminders, allowing you to view your reminders and events from a single application. As it uses iCloud data, events and to-dos created or updated in BusyCal are seamlessly synced across all your Mac and iOS devices.

The standard views in the built in Calendar application of OSX can be a bit limiting, but BusyCal has the flexibility to allow you to tailor your daily, weekly, monthly and yearly views to your particular requirements, and allows you to navigate your calendars quickly and easily. You can even display both events and to-dos in the main calendar view.

With extremely powerful and customisable alarms, BusyCal allows you to integrate with the standard OSX notification service, or even better, use it's own custom notifications. This allows you to dismiss or snooze alerts, not just once, but for minutes, hours or days - you specify how long to snooze for.

The new Menu bar helper app runs independently of the main application, and gives you immediate access to you events and to-dos, and allows you to create new events and to-dos using natural language.

Finally, I take a look at using Smart Filters to create and store multiple bespoke views of your events and to-dos, as well as using graphics to annotate your events.

This full tutorial includes sections on:

    • Introduction to BusyCal
    • Using Views
    • Entering Events & To-Dos
    • BusyCal Menu Bar Helper App
