Mountain Lion Server - Part 4 Description

Did you know, Mountain Lion Server can be used to manage your Macs and iOS devices?

In this week's show, Todd Olthoff continues his exploration of some of the typical features uses that home users might benefit from, this time looking at setting up profiles for your Macs, iPhones and iPads

These tasks are not to be taken lightly and do required some skills and background knowledge of some fairly technical subjects, and as such they are not aimed at inexperienced Mac users. In addition, everyones setup may be slightly different and it's impossible for us to give specific guidance on your own particular setup. However, even if you have no wish to setup your own server, I'm sure you'll find the screencast interesting and it's fascinating to see the inner workings of OSX server.

This full tutorial includes sections on:

  • Setting Up the Profile Manager Service
  • Enrolling Mac (OSX) Devices
  • iOS Device Enrollment
  • Profile Manager Web Interface

Thanks Gill for the kind remark. I'm so glad the videos have been helpful and hope you are enjoying your server:).

Fantastic show, Todd. Exactly what I was looking for to implement at our work place. This will save companies a lot of money if they just bought a Mac mini server instead of expensive MDM solutions that does exactly the same thing as Profile Manager does. Thanks

    Mac mini Server

This week, I take a look at a new edition to the Mac family - The new Mac mini Server with Snow Leopard Server.

Apple surprised everyone with the recent introduction of a refreshed Mac mini, optimised for duties as a full blown server.

With an increase to 500GB disk capacity, the addition of a second 500GB drive and the removal of the superdrive, the Mac mini turns out to be a surprisingly fully featured server platform, intended for small businesses or workgroups.

Along with the hardware changes, Apple also supplies a full copy of the latest version of its flagship server operating system - Snow Leopard Server. Not only that, Snow Leopard Server is supplied with unlimited client licences!

All for just $999 or £799 - altogether an incredible package and amazing value!
