Check out the images below. These are of a clip of the same show but scaled to fit on this page. You can see immediately the difference in size between the versions.
Important
- These are scaled
images to illustrate the relative screen sizes,
the actual screen sizes are double what you see
here!
Hi-Definition
Version (1280x720) scaled at 50% to fit on this
page!
Notice how the full
screen is displayed. If you have a HD TV and an Apple
TV, this is the highest resolution available and looks
spectacular on your big screen TV. It looks really good
on a Cinema Display too!
Enhanced
Desktop Version (960x540) scaled at 50% to fit on this
page!
Again, the full screen is
displayed at all times.
Desktop/iPod
Version (640x360) also scaled at 50%
This is
the version available via the free ScreenCastsOnline
RSS feed
Notice how we've had to
zoom into the screen to read the text, obscuring other
parts of the screen!
Quite a
difference eh!
Another point to notice is the file sizes. The HD and
Enhanced Desktop versions are usually smaller than the
Desktop\iPod version due to the fact that they are
encoded H.264 whereas the Desktop\iPod is encoded with
the more inefficient MPEG-4 (for compatibility with the
iPod). So Hi-Definition doesn't mean mega downloads!
Hi-Definition and Enhanced Desktop versions are only
available to ScreenCastsOnline Extra! subscribers. Once
you're registered as a ScreenCastsOnline Extra!
subscriber, you'll be given access to special RSS feeds
that will allow you to automatically receive both
enhanced versions straight into iTunes as soon as they
are published, just like the normal feed.
