Drag & Drop is great on iOS 11, but sometimes it can be difficult to drag to an application that's not immediately available. If you're dextrous, it's doable, but more often than not it can be quite troublesome.

Wouldn't it be great to just drag content to a storage area that you can access easily later on?

That's where Gladys comes in!

Gladys is a "shelf" app for all your dragged content. Just drag to Gladys and worry about where to use it later. Build a persistent library of content that you can search or filter, then just drag it out of Gladys when you're working in another application and need that content.

Gladys syncs using iCloud, so you can access your library across all of your iOS devices. It's a very useful and polished utility for iOS.

In order to print from your iPad or iPhone, you need an AirPrint-compatible printer connected and configured to use your Wi-Fi network. If you already have a printer connected to your Mac, there's no need to buy a new printer; just use Printopia.

Printopia is an app that automatically converts any printer connected to your Mac into an AirPrint-compatible printer. Extremely easy to set up, it requires no additional software to be installed on your iOS devices. Your printer simply appears as a network printer to all your iOS devices.

One of the problems of moving to a new iPhone is that the restore process brings everything across. As well as the important information, you also end up with a tonne of applications that you never use and just can't be bothered to weed out.

Wouldn't it be nice to start off with a fresh build of iOS and just the stock apps? You can do this of course (instead of restoring your iPhone) but you'll loose all your Activity, Health and Watch data.

In this tip video, I demonstrate how you can do a partial restore to a new or existing iPhone to remove all the detritus, yet keep all your Activity, Health and Watch data. A third-party utility is used to achieve this (do so at your own risk) and there is no guarantee that it will work with future releases of iOS. However, I used it on my iPhone X and it worked amazingly well! The developers have stated that it is supported on iOS 11.2 beta so it looks promising!

Decipher Activity Transfer is free, but there is a paid version that allows you to transfer additional components in addition to your Activity and Watch data.

watchOS 4 is Apple's latest update to the operating system powering the Apple Watch.

In this week's episode, we take a look at some of the new features and changes to the already-familiar apps on the Apple Watch.

The new iPhone X is out and in this video, I take you through the unboxing and initial setup of the iPhone X.

After a just a few days of use, it feels like Apple have reinvented the iPhone. Face ID and the new gestures are a delight to use.

Face ID works flawlessly, although there are some areas where it can't replace Touch ID -- such as when leaving your iPhone on a desktop -- but in most instances, it's comparable or even better than Touch ID.

Using Face ID to authenticate within apps is fantastic, and even quicker than Touch ID in most cases. Add in the beautiful design and the gorgeous OLED screen, and I think Apple have a winner.

I've even learnt to embrace the notch as it's really a non-issue if case you're wondering!

iStat Menus 6 from Bjango is a terrific update to an essential Mac utility. This update brings a host of new options on how to display information about the performance of your Mac. New colors, new icons, new graphs; it's all about tailoring to your needs.

In this update show, Allison Sheridan will demonstrate the new features that have been added since her tutorial from July 2015, SCOM0513.

You'll learn about the enhanced options in tracking CPU/GPU performance, memory management, disk speed, network speed, thermal sensors, battery and power, including connected Bluetooth devices, date and time, and an entirely new section providing local weather.

The folks at Bjango have even added notifications to alert you of problems such as a process that has been chewing up too much CPU for too long, a sensor that's reading high temperatures, or if your disk is getting dangerously full.

Allison will also demonstrate a pair of utilities (iStat Server and iStat View) that allows you to monitor the computers (Macs, PCs or Linux boxes) on your network. This can be done from either an iOS device or a Mac.

PopClip is one of my go-to apps; I use it multiple times every day!

Although at first glance PopClip looks like a simple utility to speed up copy and paste, it is so much more. With over 160 free extensions, PopClip is a fantastic boon to your productivity, enabling all sorts of workflows between most of your favourite apps.

In this week's tip, I take you through PopClip's basic operation. You should also check out the PopClip extensions page to see just what it's capable of.

With the recent news of CrashPlan discontinuing their home backup service, we thought it would be a good time to take another look at other options for backing up your data. CrashPlan allowed users to not only back up their entire Mac to the cloud, it also let you use the software to back up to other drives on your network as well as to remote destinations.

In this screencast we look at a few options to replace each of those features and give you additional ways to back up your Macs. We take a look at Backblaze as a replacement for online backups, along with their B2 cloud storage option in conjunction with an application called Arq for encrypting, uploading, and managing that online storage. We also walk through setting up Arq to do remote backups to drives you have in a remote location. We then take a look at the changes Apple have made to Time Machine with macOS High Sierra. You can now set up network Time Machine backups so that all of your Macs can back up to one central location on your local network.

iOS 11 brings with it native screen recording to your iPad or iPhone. You can record video only or both video and audio using your iOS device's microphone.

It's a great tool for creating short instructional videos for friends or family.

Once recorded, you can trim your video directly in the iOS Photos app, or use a special iMovie extension for more advanced tasks such as adding titles and music.

In this third and final full show on iOS 11, I take a look at some of the extra features of iOS we've not previously covered.

Since iOS 11 was launched, we've seen some changes in a number of major apps, as well as some new features exposed since the final beta release.

Siri has been available for the Mac for a while now, but it's not always convenient to talk to your Mac, or have it talk back to you!

Perhaps you're in a coffee shop or a library, or you just don't feel comfortable talking to your Mac.

With macOS High Sierra, it's now possible to type your Siri commands as well as switch off the audio feedback from Siri.

Much more civilised!

Many apps are embracing a subscription-based pricing model, which is great for developers but can cause subscription fatigue for consumers. MacPaw (the developers of CleanMyMac and Gemini) have a different idea: a service that provides developers with a predictable income stream while limiting the number of subscriptions that consumers have to pay for each month.

That service is called SetApp, and it has been described as the "Netflix for quality Mac apps."

If you have an iCloud account, you are allocated 5GB of iCloud storage for free, as part of your iCloud account.

The problem is, with the increasing need for iCloud storage, 5GB is not enough for most people.

Up until now, the only option was for each individual to pay for additional iCloud storage each month.

However, with the introduction of iOS 11 and macOS High Sierra, it's now possible for families using iCloud Family Sharing to have a single paid tier of iCloud storage and use it as a shared pool of storage.

In this weekly tip, I demonstrate how to set up iCloud Storage Family Sharing, and how each family member can access it, on both macOS and iOS.

Parallels Toolbox is a very unusual application. It's a toolbox that is filled with over 20 tools that each do one thing and do it well. While much of its capability can be accomplished via other utilities, Parallels Toolbox contains them all in one simple interface. It replaces the need for complicated Terminal commands or hard-to-remember keystrokes. Whether it's keeping your Mac awake, finding duplicate files, or making animated GIFs, Parallels Toolbox has got it. (It even works on Windows!)

There's been an Apple TV app for iOS for quite a while now. With iOS 11, it's now available within the iOS Control Centre.

In this tip video we demonstrate how to enable the app and use its common features.

Even if you don't use the app to control your Apple TV, the ability to enter text in Apple TV text boxes or use Siri with your Apple TV via the app is a godsend.

iOS 11 brings with it new ways to re-arrange the icons on your home screen in bulk no more dragging individual icons. You can now grab a bunch to move to a different screen, or even to create folders.
