Great overview Mike, very informative. I have been using Airmail for about a year and believe it to be the best third-party mail app that is relatively device agnostic. I have 7 "active" email accounts (Exchange, Gmail, iCloud and Microsoft). The ability to manage all of my accounts via one GUI across all of my devices offers a level of consistency that is unmatched. One feature I find particularly valuable is the ability to sync email accounts and settings with iCloud. The sync feature makes setup on all of my devices a breeze - I was amazed to find all my my signatures sync'd as well! Thanks again!
