In show 1449, Lee started to walk through BusyCal, an alternative calendar application on the Mac (also available for iOS), that offers far more features than the native Calendar app. Whilst that video mostly looked at basic features, in Part 2 we look at elements that set it apart. This includes tagging events to help with organisation, Smart Filters that only show you what you need to see at a given time, and also how to integrate BusyCal with Zoom so you only need one interface to schedule that all-important conference call. The native Calendar app on macOS serves a purpose for most users, however there are alternatives that offer more with their feature set. In this video, Lee starts walking you through his application of choice, BusyCal. It's been around since 2006 and in that time, has always iterated, and added useful features along the way. This first of this two-part series looks at the basics of adding accounts, working with the different event types you can add (did you know you can journal within a calendar application?) as well as customise your view settings and work with the menu bar to quickly add items using natural language. Lee also shows you how you can group related calendars together, then quickly reveal or hide them with one click.

We’ve covered BusyCal before but the Mac version has had a big upgrade and they’ve recently released a brand new iOS version of BusyCal too!

BusyCal has for a long time been one of the premier calendaring applications for the Mac, and with the introduction of the new iOS version, you can now also use BusyCal to manage your calendars via your iPad and iPhone.

The iOS App will work completely independently from the Mac app, as it uses your iCloud calendar data as well as supporting integration with Google Calendar, Exchange and more. So you don’t need both the Mac and iOS app, you can use either or both. The underlying calendar data is also accessible from your standard Mac and iOS Calendar apps.

In this episode, Todd Olthoff gives you a refresher on the existing features of BusyCal on the Mac and take a look at some of the brand new features, as well as taking a look at the new iOS app on the iPad.

This week, it's time to revisit the de facto alternative to the standard OSX Calendar application - BusyCal.

BusyCal is a fully featured calendaring and to-do list application that syncs your iCloud calendars, your Google calendars and most other CalDAV based services. It also integrates with your iCloud reminders, allowing you to view your reminders and events from a single application. As it uses iCloud data, events and to-dos created or updated in BusyCal are seamlessly synced across all your Mac and iOS devices.
