When the Action Button was introduced to the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max in September 2023, it replaced the traditional mute switch, which had been present since the 2007 iPhone. So many people just converted this button back to muting the device! There's so much more you can do with it though, and in this video, Lee shows you how he does indeed still use it as a mute switch, but also as an input button for tasks, ideas and memories at the same time.

This tip video was extremely helpful and gives me an entire new use for the iPhone action button. Prior to this tip video, I also had never found a good use for shortcuts. I have it set up for OmniFocus, including adding to my grocery shopping list, a quick check on the weather, an instant way to make a new note in apple Notes and add an event in BusyCal. I would be interested to hear how others are using the technique set out in this video.
That's great to hear Nick, glad you found it useful. If you were a user of Focus Modes, then you can add a small layer onto the Automation where it checks which Focus mode you are in - then you could have present a whole list of different actions, dependant on that mode - so more work-specific ones perhaps. There's lots of way you can leverage it, without the need to be too geeky.
I Love the *Orientation Dependency* if clause of Lee's action button-- i would never have thought of that, and i'm excited to try out its usefulness in my day to day.
I was able to make a pretty useful shortcut from the basic backbone of the video.
- I skipped over the Omnifocus App,,
- but decided to follow the submenu Lee created for repeating tasks or non-repeating tasks in the **Due App**.

- I added A Drafts5.app menu options, Reminders.app menu options, and Journals.app menu options, with "Ask each Time" prompts filled in for most of the Variables, and some extra 'metadata-type' information added to some of the action notes submenus.

@T R - thanks so much for the feedback and it's welcome, because this is kind of what I'm looking at with a few more of the Tip videos. It's great using the shorter Tuesday videos to showcase some smaller apps that are genuinely really useful, but don't warrant a Full Friday, however I also want the Tuesday Tips to be occasionally just that - Tips!
Good job on adding the Drafts actions - and thanks for sharing that link!. It doesn't seem to like links in the comments here, so when I"m more awake today, I"ll look to get it added in the Show Description instead (if I can't fix it here). Really like the inspiration - that's exactly what I"m looking to provide.

This short and sweet and a just as fun and useful as your prior Wallpapers Shortcut workflow. the simple 'asides' you share are so valuable---- eg 'deleting and re-adding an action if it goes buggy'. That has already today saved me an embarrassing amount of time banging my head against the 'documentation'.
my only note is MORE PLEASE ! \( ^ D ^ ;)/
PS...maybe you'd consider doing a shortcut workflow showing how to save/append our fav SCO videos (and their URLs) to a Drafts5 List. i'd def get a lot of use out of that ... and it would help me create shortcut workflows that can be friendly with both webpage data sharing and App sharing (if routing the links via the SCO app.)
Ha! Trust me, I'm so human - when I record, things can go wrong and if it's just me being dopey, I"ll cut it out fully and never mention it, however if it's something buggy or I just don't know why it happens - I"ll leave it in or call it out somewhere, because the chances are it will happen to someone else. And Shortcuts IS a buggy app, it's no secret.
Saving SCO Videos and URLs to a Drafts List...hmmmm... that's one to look at!
