Handling the location and metadata for your photos can be an arduous task. Many photo managing apps don't make this easy and often times the metadata is only contained in the library and doesn't go along with your image files if you move them to another library.

HoudahGeo 5 is an application that streamlines adding location and other metadata to your files. The best part is that it writes that information to the files themselves instead of the library's catalog. HoudahGeo can also communicate with programs like Photos and Lightroom to make sure that those libraries are aware of the changes and perform the necessary updates inside the library.

This week Todd takes you on a tour of HoudahGeo 5. He walks you through the various ways to get photos into HoudahGeo 5 and then covers all of the geocoding and metadata options. You also learn how to add metadata to the files and share them with outside libraries. Exporting that added information to other services that read them is covered in the last section of the show.

Live Photos are a great addition to the iPhone and you can further transform them using one of three effects: Loop, Bounce and Long Exposure.

I love using the Long Exposure effect on any running water or fountains. It makes a huge difference on your photos, without the need for specialist photo equipment or in-depth technical knowledge.

Adobe recently announced some changes to it's Creative Cloud options for Lightroom. With users moving more and more to mobile devices, Adobe decided to go towards a mobile-first solution for Lightroom. In the process, they've separated their desktop and cloud-based products, calling them Lightroom Classic for the desktop version and Lightroom CC for the cloud-based one. This has caused some confusion not only over the names of each of the products but also which one to use in your photography workflow.
