There was a time when Apple Mail was a really user-friendly email client that offered a variety of customisation options to help keep you on top of your Inboxes. This, was down to the word that the software company SmallCubed put in to its suite of plug-ins, called MailSuite.
Now, years later, they are back with their own email application that is turning heads with its user-friendly approach, called MailMaven. Taking all of the best features of MailSuite, MailMaven tries to do the impossible and make email fun again or, at least, bearable.
In the first of a two-part series, Lee first sets up MailMaven, then gives you a tour of the interface. He then looks at how MailMaven helps you process messages quickly using a variety of shortcuts. You also learn how to configure Inbox, Outbox and Keystroke Rules to ensure the right messages are in the right place at the right time.

So glad that at last MailMaven is getting more exposure. I've been using it ever since the first pre-1.0 release. It was pretty flaky then but Small Cubed have stuck at it and it is now indispensable to me. I was dismayed when Apple changes made the Mail Suite redundant and frankly never thought that Small Cubed would get their own client up and running. But they have, and it is absolutely excellent. The flexibility means it will fit into just about anybody's work flow and will certainly repay time spent exploring all its features. At first I missed the tight integration with Things3 that Apple Mail had, but a simple Keyboard Maestro macro has sorted that for now. And now I use keywords to use MM as a todo app and only use Things 3 for non-email related or repeating tasks. I would normally consider it poor practice to use two task apps at once, but I find it works very well and saves me a ton of time. Looking forward to part two of your MM video.
