Ulysses is yet another app to switch from a traditional single payment purchase to a new recurring subscription model.
As with previous apps, this has caused much consternation as many people refuse to adopt a subscription model for software applications.
In this episode, I take a look at Ulysses and the changes to the app, along with a potential way of sticking with Ulysses using SetApp, another subscription-based service, but one that gives you access to over 80 Mac apps in addition to Ulysses.
If you really don't want to go down the subscription route, I also take a look at two alternatives to Ulysses: Byword and iA Writer, two terrific, cross-platform, single-payment apps.
Of course, we can't forget to mention Scrivener when considering powerful writing apps. Since I've already covered Scrivener extensively on other shows, you'll find the link to those in the show notes.

Enjoyed the tutorial. I have been using Settapp for a while now and also had previously purchased Ulysses. However, I have now moved over to iAWriter and it's looking good. Thanks. BTW you stated that Settapp can be used on 5 Macs. The current subscription only allows use on 2 Macs.
