There are a lot of scenarios where it can be advantageous to take notes with paper and pencil, but going back and finding what you need later can be a pain. In this tutorial, Mike introduces you to the different note-taking tools in GoodNotes while demoing sketchnoting, a visual note taking method that is typically used when listening to something you're interested in. You learn how to utilize those tools in GoodNotes, convert your handwritten notes into text, as well as search your documents after you've created them. Ulysses is yet another app to switch from a traditional single payment purchase to a new recurring subscription model.
As with previous apps, this has caused much consternation as many people refuse to adopt a subscription model for software applications.
In this episode, I take a look at Ulysses and the changes to the app, along with a potential way of sticking with Ulysses using SetApp, another subscription-based service, but one that gives you access to over 80 Mac apps in addition to Ulysses.
If you really don't want to go down the subscription route, I also take a look at two alternatives to Ulysses: Byword and iA Writer, two terrific, cross-platform, single-payment apps.
Of course, we can't forget to mention Scrivener when considering powerful writing apps. Since I've already covered Scrivener extensively on other shows, you'll find the link to those in the show notes.
