Tutorial Description

Apple's watchOS has had some significant updates since our last overview video back in 2018. So we decided it was time to look at how Apple Watch and its operating system have evolved.

In this screencast, Lee starts by looking at what the two latest series watches (5 and 6) can offer you, as well as some of the core new features of watchOS 6 and 7. This includes a variety of new health and fitness options. While some of these new additions and apps rely on later series watches' hardware, there are lots of features that work on previous editions, including new Watch Faces and the redesigned Reminders app.

The full tutorial covers:

  • Comparing Series 5 and Series 6
  • Blood Oxygen Measuring
  • Handwashing
  • Sleep Tracking
  • New Workouts
  • Custom Exercise Goals
  • Cycle Tracking
  • Noise Level
  • Voice Memos
  • Calculator
  • Family Setup
  • Now Playing
  • Find My
  • Reminders
  • Face Sharing
  • App Store
  • Create Your Memoji

Family Setup Note - For those wondering if the required Apple Watch w/ cellular needs to have an active plan, it sounds like it is possible to get by without one. However, some features will not be available, in that case. See this support article: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT211768

I must admit, it is a bit unclear what will not work if you do not have a cellular plan active on the Apple Watch being setup under Family Setup.
