Tutorial Description

This week, I take a look at an extremely popular and fascinating "hobby" - Genealogy. That's the formal name for the addictive pastime of researching your family tree. It's never been easier with the vast of data now available online, and a host of services and applications for Mac, PC and iOS.

One of the problems is knowing where to start and understanding how to access the different information sources. For my needs, I found that all this was resolved by using Ancestry.com (or in my case Ancestry.co.uk). This is a paid service (with a 14 day free trial) that pulls all the information sources together and gives you easy access. It also does a lot of the leg work for you by analysing your family tree and delivering your automated "hints" to speed up the searching process.

In this week's show I take a look at the Ancestry.co.uk web service and demonstrate just how easy it is to get started.

But be warned, it is highly addictive!

The full tutorial covers:

  • Introduction
  • Using the Ancestry Web Service
  • Starting A New Family Tree
  • Navigating the Family Tree
  • Accessing Ancestry Hints
  • Profile View
  • Tree Pages Menu
  • Printing Your Tree
