Tutorial Description

PDFpen & PDFpenPro V6 have just been released.

PDFpen is a great PDF editor from Smile Software that allows you to edit, sign and correct PDFs. Although I've covered PDFpen before, the new version has some great new features including newly designed toolbars, support for Retina displays, new sidebar options and a spectacular "Export to Word" feature.

The Pro version builds on it's current advanced feature set with the addition of document permission settings and a great new automatic form layout feature.

This tutorial gives you a refresher on PDFpen and introduces you to all the new features.

This full tutorial includes sections on:

  • PDFpen Introduction
  • New User Interface
  • Main Toolbar
  • Editing Toolbar
  • Exporting to Microsoft Word
  • OCR in PDFpen
  • New Features in PDFpenPro v6
  • Create Form Fields Automatically
  • Document Permissions

Maybe I missed something here, but does PDFPen do a better job of making a Word document than the Pages option? Seems like an extra step of work, create a PDF from Pages, then load into PDFPen just to then make it into a Word document. What don't I understand. Like you I don't use MS products much, so I would tend to send docs out as PDFs and then I wouldn't need to worry about what software someone was using.

Hi Olen, I was just using the Pages document as an example! PDFpen is really intended for when you receive a PDF from someone else and you don't have access to the original source document. Previously, the PDF format was considered "locked" but now with the export to Word feature, you can edit a converted copy in Word (or Pages).
