Tutorial Description

When looking at options for password management, most of the discussions centre around 1Password vs Apple Passwords. There are, however, other options that are worthy of consideration. In this video, Lee takes a look at Strongbox which, if you have a Setapp subscription, is definitely worth a look. It's available on macOS, iOS and iPadOS and has lots of options for storing your database.

Local or cloud sync? Up to you. Encryption level? Up to you. It's got an awful lot going for it and Lee takes a look at some of the basic features Strongbox has to offer in the macOS app. You learn how to create new databases, items, look at tactics for grouping and tagging and also audit your passwords to ensure you are on top of your security game.

This video covers:

  • Getting Started
  • Creating a New Database
  • Adding New Items
  • Item Properties
  • Using Autofill
  • Password Generator
  • Added Credit Cards
  • Groups and Tags
  • Audits
  • Setting up 2FA

Thanks for covering Strongbox. I switched to Strongbox when 1Password stopped allowing local vaults and forced users to their exclusive Cloud-based solution about 4 or 5 years ago. That was a deal-breaker for me and I felt fortunate to find Strongbox. The learning curve was pretty small coming from 1Password and I have been a happy Strongbox user ever since.

No problem Fernando. I think you're right when you mention the learning curve. I was in two minds whether to make this a Friday video or a slightly longer Tuesday one and I think I made the right call as if you use a Password manager already, lots of the features in Strongbox will be familiar - however local storage is a must for some people and Strongbox is very nice to use.
