Update: We've created more recent DEVONthink tutorials since this was published - Please see this link
DEVONthink is probably one of the most requested productivity and organisational apps I get asked to cover. Well this week is the week it happens, but as a change, I thought I'd get a DEVONthink expert in to lead us through the benefits of this complex and powerful application - Todd Olthoff.
Todd takes us through the basics of DEVONthink Pro Office for the first part of this two part series. Looking at the initial setup, exploring the user interface and examining some of the unique integration features of DEVONthink.
Although Todd examines DEVONthink Pro Office, many of the the features are also included in the other versions of DEVONthink.
This full tutorial includes sections on:
Part 2 will look at some of the more advanced features of DEVONthink

Thanks Todd for the overview. I have been using Devonthink Pro Office for several years and have a feeling I am only using a fraction of its potential. I am looking forward to learning more in part two.
Thanks Stephen! Glad you found the screencast helpful. I felt the same way about Devonthink when I first got started. It really is a great app especially if you are looking at a paperless office. If you have any questions along the way, feel free to leave a comment and I'll do my best to answer it.
Are you going to cover setting up the product on a server for others to share in the office?
We will cover the built in server that lets you share databases through the safari interface in part 2. I know Devon Technologies is working on a syncing solution for their next release but I think the browser feature works pretty well.
First of all I want to thank you Todd for covering DT and compliment you on a job well done! I really enjoyed watching this screencast.
I have been using DT for a while so I hope there will be some follow-up shows delving deeper into DT. I think this amazing app is worth a few extra length shows.
Some things I would love to see covered are the Tickler functionality and some examples of how other people use DT.
This is a really amazing app for information gathering, paperless office (with a ScanSnap) and as an information aid in a GTD system.
Or as a German friend of mine once said: "This app alone makes it worth having a Mac."
Looking forward to the next show! :)
Thanks for the kind remarks Pascal! I agree DT is an amazing app once you understand all that it can do:). I hope you enjoy part 2!

Nicely done. I would really like some in-depth information on how to work with specific documents to mark-up, link, create separate documents (for timelines and the like) and then to sort those abstracted documents into one by sorting.
...Probably should have edited that last clause to read and how then to work with the data by merge or otherwise through sorting.
